According to the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, behind the pseudonym of the creator of Bitcoin may be a mathematician who, in 1998, created an algorithm for a decentralized digital currency called “bit gold.”
During a podcast with Lex Fridman, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk denied rumors that he is a real Satoshi Nakamoto and the creator of Bitcoin. The businessman suggested that the real Satoshi Nakamoto could be computer scientist Nick Szabo. According to Elon Musk, the ideas promoted by Szabo are very similar to the principles underlying the first cryptocurrency.
In 1998, Nick Szabo created a decentralized digital currency algorithm called “bit gold.” Even though the system has not been implemented in practice, it is considered the predecessor of Bitcoin. However, Szabo denies any involvement in the development of the first and leading cryptocurrency.
It is a common theory that Nick Szabo is the real Bitcoin developer. Linguists at Aston University in Birmingham studied the writing style and topics the computer scientist brought up. They largely coincided with the Bitcoin white paper.
Analysts took as a sample more than 40 articles from Szabo’s website and, among other things, noticed one consistent pattern. In the original article by Satoshi about Bitcoin, you can see a double space quite often. This may be due to using a LaTeX editor to write the original article before converting it to PDF. There is a similar detail in some of the scientist’s articles.
Rumors of a connection between Elon Mask and Satoshi Nakamoto
On December 28, former SpaceX and Tesla employee Sahil Gupta explained why he considers Elon Musk to be Satoshi Nakamoto. The programmer said that in 2017 he communicated with the representative of the businessman Sam Teller regarding the work. Gupta explained that the Teller turned him down and advised him to start his own company. At the end of the call, the developer asked the businessman’s representative if Musk was the creator of Bitcoin. Teller kept silent for about some time and then said: “Well, what can I say.” In support of his words, the programmer posted a screenshot of the correspondence in which he arranged a call with Teller.
Gupta first stated that Elon Musk was Satoshi Nakamoto in 2017. According to the ex-SpaceX employee, a business person with a high probability can be the Bitcoin creator since he had all the necessary resources, knowledge, and motivation.
Satoshi Nakamoto is an anonymous developer or group of programmers who published the document “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System” in 2008. The Bitcoin blockchain was created a year later, and the first block was mined.
